Leeds City Council has set itself the ambition to be a Child Friendly City to improve outcomes for children, young people and families across Leeds. Its ‘Leeds Children and Young People’s Plan 2023–2028’ recognises the importance of play, making it one of their priorities. As part of this, Leeds City Council’s Areas of Research Interest for 2024–25 asked “How can we develop inclusive green and play spaces?”.

We have been working with the University of Leeds this year to understand from children how they play in the city centre.

Two months on from the inaugural Love to Play 2021 and we are still motoring. Lot’s of wonderful sparks, relationships and ideas, leading to two regular features; Radio Funtime and Play & Health with Laura Walsh (Great Ormond Street Hospital) and Lisa Beaumont (Leeds Childrens Hospital)

Our Chief Exec of Play, Galaxy Division at Playful Anywhere, Emma Bearman, has recently attended the inaugural 4 week international Low Carbon Design Institute Residency. As part of the programme the cohort were asked to consider their practice and respond to the talks and resources by experts across the field of Low Carbon futures.

We’re delighted to see our partners LS14 Trust go from strength to strength with their Playbox003 in Rein Park. They are now recruiting for a second role of Playbox Development worker to work alongside the Community Development Manager.
