How did we get into ‘Shipping Containers?’
When we first acquired a #shippingcontainer it was for a mega daft project in 2014 called March of the Robots.
It was a Roving Robot Lab. With a STEAM PUNK time travelling artist/maker in residence - Stephen Reid (Minecraft/3D Printing)
We travelled to 12 different places in Leeds in less than a month, with the RobotLab, visiting people, hearing their stories about where they lived and what used to be made there. We collected parts for a giant 'Iron Man' Style Robot to be made live on Light Night with artist Mark Haig.
When finally we crashed to earth in an exhausted heap, we realised our RobotLab needed a permanent home. So we asked if the friendly folks who tend to Armley Common would allow us to rest up on a wonderful piece of land called Charlie Cake Park. Which they did…
The Robotlab sat quietly, for about a day, the curious children wanted to know ‘what was it doing next…?’ and over the course of the next six months it became ‘The Playbox’
